Meet founder Susan Yule
I started Hungry Squirrel in May 2017 from my home kitchen as a result of becoming intolerant to peanut butter and finding the alternative nut butters available on the supermarket shelves uninspiring. I wanted to provide my children with a healthy, nutritious spread that was not full of refined sugar and palm oil. I began creating all-natural nut butters with exciting flavour profiles and then began selling at local farmers markets in my hometown of Aberdeen. Hungry Squirrels nut butters are a healthy yet delicious product that everyone can enjoy. My range of nut butters are all vegan, refined sugar free, contain no palm oil, are naturally gluten free and above all… full of flavour! I now retail throughout Scotland via independent retailers and my online store which serves customers from all over the UK and further afield.
Awards and achievements
Hungry Squirrel is the proud winner of the BBC Good Food Show award in August 2017. We won the Healthy Choice Award at the Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards 2018 with our Crunchy ABC Mix nut butter! We also won a Great Taste Award with one star in September 2020. Hungry Squirrel is now just over 3 years old and moved to a commercial kitchen premises in January 2019 to scale up production. The business is currently engaged with manufacturers in both the UK and the US.
